My 7th blogiversary !

On 17 January 2013 I published my 1st post for this blog, so today is my 7th blogiversary !

In those years January and August 2018 were the months with the most posts (5), followed by July and October 2018, November 2017 and January 2014 (4). The 6th year, 2018, was the year with the most blog posts: 39. In 2019 I wrote ...

The most common surnames among my known ancestors are Van Driel, Oerlemans, Spruijt, Brand and Bos. On this blog the most common surnames in my posts are Bos and De Jong, the surnames of my parents.

My favourite posts of my own ancestors are:
  1. Arie de Sterke (1796-1892) fought in Russia & at Waterloo
  2. Thomas Brullee's Whaling Expeditions of 1687 and 1712
  3. Bos is a common name in The Netherlands
My ancestors with the most children are Cornelis Bos (1813-1888) and Otto van Driel (1756-1832): both had 17 children with 2 wives. In the 17th century Arij Peijnsz. Hogerwaert and his wife Trijntje Willems had 16 children together
The couple Gerrit Korver and Neeltjen Bloet (±1640-1727) were married for over 66 years. When my ancestor Jan Pieterse Vasen died on 11-8-1702 in Ottoland, Holland, he was "around 100 years old and had been blind for 3 or 4 years".

To celebrate this 7-year milestone I've compiled a list of genealogy tips & tricks articles.

George Springvloed (1867-1950) & Cornelia Vroegindeweij (1867-1928)

Middelharnis
George Springvloed was born on 3 December 1867 in Sommelsdijk, Holland, as the 12th and youngest child of Arnoldus Springvloed (1822-1904) and his wife Willempje Spee (1824-1908). George was named after his paternal grandfather, while two elder, same-named siblings had died young. Georg's surname Springvloed can be translated as spring tide" which is an appropriate name for someone living on an isle that - at that time - was in open connection with the North Sea.

George was married op 19 April 1889 in Middelharnis to Cornelia Vroegindeweij. She is a daughter of Arend Vroegindeweij (1834-1921) and Jacoba van der Groef (1837-1928). Her birth was on 5 July 1867 in Sommelsdijk. Cornelia has an interesting surname, too, that can be translated as “early in the meadow” and is sometimes written as Vroeg in de Weij. The Vroegindeweij family descends from a Dammis Vroegindeweij who was living in 's-Gravendeel, Holland, in the 17th century.

George was working as a shoemaker in Sommelsdijk. At the beginning of 1909, he was declared bankrupt, although that bankruptcy was withdrawn shortly thereafter. Still, later that same year George left with his family for the USA.

De Maasbode, 21-2-1909

Cornelia Vroegindeweij died there in 1928. George Springvloed died in 1950 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They had 7 children.
