Gerrit Boeser (1786-1848) married 2 sisters

Painter Daniel Boeser (1757-1812) and his wife Sijchie Paardekooper (1769-1836) had their second son, Gerrit, baptised on 28 May 1786 in Beverwijk in Holland. The couple had a total of 11 children, but some of them died young. In addition to an older brother Wouter Boeser (1785-1859), Gerrit also had younger brothers named Jan Martinus Boeser (1796-1851), Johannes Boeser (1799-1872) and Hendrik Daniel Boeser (1801-1842). Around 1792 the family had moved from Beverwijk to Rotterdam.

Gerrit was the first of his siblings to marry. He married Pieternella Brand in Rotterdam on 13 August 1809. Pieternella was baptised on 6 October 1782 in Kralingen (now part of Rotterdam). Her parents are Heiltje Vrooman (1748-1815) and Arij Brand (1747-1814). Two elder siblings had also been named Pieternella, but they had died young.
Pieternella Brand gave birth to a daughter Sophia Cornelia who was baptised on 1 October 1809 in Haarlem. In 1811 and 1814 in Rotterdam they had sons who both died young. Pieternella died on 25 may 1816 in Rotterdam, aged 33.

Pieternella Brand, wife of Gerrit Boeser, died on 26-5-1816 in Rotterdam

Gerrit Boeser then married Pieternella's elder sister Dirkje Brand on 13 August 1817 in Rotterdam. Dirkje was baptised on 25 January 1778 in Kralingen. She had first married Machiel Jurriens who had died at the age of 34 on 8 November 1811. They had a daughter Heijltje, born on 3 July and baptised on 18 August 1805 in Rotterdam with witness Heijltje Vrooman, the maternal grandmother. Dirkje was 39 years old at the time of her second marriage, and she had no further issue.

Gerrit's daughter Sophia Cornelia was married on 9 November 1836 in Rotterdam to blue-eyed Christiaan Gerardus van der Leck (1807-1878), widower of Anna Barbara Clement. After 5 pregnancies Sophia Cornelia had 2 surviving children: Gerrit (1837-1913) and Pieteronella (1843-1909) van der Leck.
Dirkje's daughter Heijltje was married on 13 June 1838 in Rotterdam to Willem Eichman (1811-1903) who originated in Leiden. Their eldest child was Josina Cornelia Eichman (1839-1879).

Dirkje Brand died on 12 June 1844 in Rotterdam, aged 66. Four years later, her widower Gerrit Boeser died there, at the age of 62, on 19 August 1848.
Gerrit's daughter Sophia Cornelia Boeser died there on 2 March 1869 at the age of 59. His stepdaughter Heiltje Jurriens died in Rotterdam on 7 November 1886, aged 81.

The Goossens Family in Venlo and their Belgian wives

My late father-in-law owned a collection of personal record cards containing spaces for the genealogical information of a person, his parents and spouse. The children can be added at the back of the card. I received custody of this genealogy cards box. A lot of those cards are filled in with persons with the surname Goossens.

Marguerita Maria Louise Leonie Wilhelmine (“Margot”) Goossens (1912-1989), my father-in-law’s mother, belonged to a notable family in Venlo in the Southeast of The Netherlands. Margot’s father August Emile Alphons Marie Hubert Goossens (1882-1956) and her grandfather August Theodoor Hubert Goossens (1838-1911) were merchants of colonial goods.
The elder August was described as “a calm, reasonable man, for whom one must hold the highest esteem”. He was married around 1867 to Marie Louise Eugenie Hubertine Lumaije (1848-1907). Her father Félix François Lumaije (also: Lumay) was born around 1819 in Spy near Namur in Belgium. I’m very happy with the info on my father-in-law's personal record cards for my French is nearly non-existent.
Félix is a son of farmer Louis Joseph Ghislain Lumaije (1784-1835) and a grandson of Jean François Lumaije (1742-1810) who originated in Bois-de-Villers near Namur.

The calm and reasonable elder August Goossens is a son of Mathieu Ferdinand Goossens (1791-1869) who married Maria Elisabeth Francisca (“Elisabeth”) de Borman (1792-1866). Her sister Maria Anna Alexandrina ("Anna") de Borman (1793-1877) had married Petrus Jacobus (“Pierre”) Goossens (1790-1876), the elder brother of Mathieu Ferdinand. Pierre and Anna had 8 children including Eugene Nicolaas Hubert Goossens (1827-1903). Eugene was born in Bree in Belgium and married Catherine Victorine Honoré (1838-1866) who originated in Liège. Their son is Charles Joseph Victor Marie Goossens (1862-1915) who died on 14 December 1915 in Arcachon, Gironde, France.

Short-lived Marriage ~ Kornelia Baars (1809-1876) in Oud-Beijerland

Kornelia Baars was born on 20 April 1809 in Oud-Beijerland in Holland. Her parents are Arij Baars (1764-1846) and his second wife Adriana Kraak (±1783-1816). Arij's had been a widower of Neeltje Kraak (1766-±1805), Adriana's cousin. Arij Baars had 15 children with his 2 wives.

On 7 April 1831 in Oud-Beijerland 21-year-old Kornelia Baars was married. The groom was Albertus Pieter Camphuis, born on 21 January 1808 in Charlois (now part of Rotterdam). His parents are Feiko Albertus Camphuis, who originated in Appingedam near Groningen, and his wife Neeltje Moudt.
Kornelia Baars gave birth to her first child, Adriana Neeltje Camphuis, on 6 October 1831 in Oud-Beijerland. In the next two years Feike Albertus and Neeltje Kornelia were born, but the last died on 13 December 1834, 3 months old.
On 25 July 1835 disaster struck again, when Albertus Pieter Camphuis died, at the age of 27, after a short-term illness. Kornela was pregnant at the time. She gave birth on 19 October to a son named after his father. Little Albertus Pieter died on 29 December, 2 months old. Kornelia Baars was a 26-year-old widow with 2 small children. She had been married for only 4 years.

Rotterdamsche Courant, 28-7-1835

Two years later, on 9 May 1838, Kornelia Baars was married to widower Daniel Stolk. Daniel was born in Ouderkerk aan den IJssel on 7 Arpil 1796. His parents are Marrigje (den) Boer (1761-1833) en Pieter Stolk (1756-1835). Pieter is a descendant of my ancestor Pieter Stolk (±1657-1741)
Daniel had married his first wife, Anna Boulonois, on 6 June 1821 in Rotterdam, when he was 25 years old. Anna was born on 27-7-1791 in Rotterdam, and died there on 17 July 1829.
Daniel married his second wife, Ingetje de Regt, on 22-12-1830 in Rotterdam. Together they had a son Pieter, a daughter Catharina, and a stillbirth. Ingetje died on 1 September 1836, aged 35 years and 11 months.

Cornelia Baars and Daniel Stolk had 5 children in the period 1838-1848, but they all died young. Cornelia's son Feike Albertus Kamphuis died in 1839, aged 5. In the summer of 1848 her only surviving child was her eldest daughter Adriana Neeltje Camphuis.
On 2 April 1858 Adriana Neeltje Camphuis was married to Lucas Vreugdenhil, a widower with children who was 10 years her senior. In 1860 they were living in de Haarlemmermeer area.

A Bos family with German roots

Pastry baker Hoot Onno Bos (25) and Klazina Stikker (21) were married on 16 June 1888 in Nieuwolda in the northeastern part of The Netherlands.
Klazina was born on 30 July 1866 in Oterdum near Delfzijl. Her parents are Pieter Stikker (1820-1886) and Engelina Nap (1847-1901).
Hoot Onno Bos was born on 2 August 1862 in Nieuwolda. His parents are Hindrik Bos (1826-1874) and Grietje Westerhuis (1824-1886). His paternal grandparents are Grietje Freerks Vos and Christoffer (“Stoffer Koerts”) Bos. Christoffel originated in Kappel in Germany.

Hoot Onno Bos and Klazina Stikker are the parents of

1. Engelina, born on 3 June 1889 in Groningen, died there on 15 April 1890.
2. Hindrik, born on 21 Septrmrt 1890 in Groningen. In 1937 Hindrik was living in Leibzig in Germany.
3. Engelina Grietje, born on 24 June 1894 in Groningen.

In 1913 Hoot Onno Bos, his wife and 2 surviving children were living in The Hague in Holland. In 1925 they moved to Leiden in Holland.

Hoot Onno Bos died at the age of 74 on 11 June 1937 in Leiden. He was buried there on the 14th. His widow, Klazina Stikker, died at the age of 81 on 20 August 1947 in Geneva, Switzerland. Her sister Maria had a small obituary placed in a newspaper.

Intermarriage in the Nijpels & Nijst families

Wine merchant Johannes Matthias (“Jean Mathieu”) Nijpels was married in Maastricht, Limburg, The Netherlands, on 26 January 1809. His bride was Eleonora (“Eléonore”) Nijst, born in Octber 1788 in Maastricht. Her parents are Laurentius Nijst (1761-1852) and Marie Ludgardis Nijpels (1763-1821). Eléonore’s grandparents are Joannes Nijst, Anne Gertrude Nijpels (±1715-1807), Henri Laurent Nijpels (1736-1800) and Maria Gertrudis Nijst. The Nijpels and Nijst families were clearly closely related.
The groom, Johannes Matthias, was born on 21 April 1788 in Maastricht. His parents are Théodore Nijpels (1758-1810) and Anne Marie Tixon (1753-1835). His paternal grandparents are Mathias Joseph Nijpels (1720-1781) and Marie Adelaide van Gulpen (1724-1807). His paternal great-grandparents are Laurentius Nijpels and Christina Nijst who were married on 3 April 1718 in Maastricht.

Johannes Matthias and Eléonore had 7 children, and 4 of them reached adulthood:

1. Jean Laurent Théophile Nijpels was born on 21-4-1809 in Maastricht. Jean died there on 20-12-1871, aged 62. Like his father, Jean was a wine merchant. He married Maria Elisabeth Cecilia Rochs (1811-1874) in 1833 in Maastricht. They had descendants in the female line.
2. Josephine Lutgarde Theodorine Nijpels was born on 19-3-1811 in Maastricht. Josephine died 31-5-1866 in Brussels, Belgium, aged 55. Josephine had married Frederic Denis Sanders (1806-1846) in 1835 in Maastricht. Josephine was remarried in 1860 in Maastricht to widower Joannes Petrus Smits.
6. Léopold Alfred Désiré Nijpels was born on 17-4-1825 in Maastricht. Leopold died there on 20-10-1902, aged 77. Leopold was a lawyer. He had married Maria Hubertina Clementina van Hoven (1827-1880) in 1847 in Maastricht. They had 9 children.
7. Lutgarde Hortense Valerie Nijpels was born on 1-1-1828 in Maastricht. Lutgarde died there on 1-1-1909, aged 81. Lutgarde had married Joseph Hubert Polis (1826-1861) in 1851 in Maastricht.

Johannes Matthias suddenly passed away in the night of 15-16 October 1852, aged 64. His widow Eléonore survived him for 13 years, dying on 25 October 1865, also in Maastricht. They were both survived by the 4 children mentioned above.

Adriana van der Koogh travelled to the USA with her 2 surviving kids

The Adriana van der Koogh in this story was born on 5 December 1814 in Dordrecht, Holland. Her parents are miller Jillis van der Koogh (1788-1877) and his wife Adriana de Leeuw (1789-1850). Adriana's paternel grandparents are miller Willem van der Koogh (1734-1809) and Sija Brand (±1758-1803). Adriana's 4 great-grandparents are all my ancestors, too.

Mills in Dordrecht

At the age of 23, Adriana van der Koogh was married on 12 September 1838 in Dordrecht to Andreas Bax. Andreas was born on 31 May 1815 in Dordrecht as son of Johannes Bax (1794-1833) and Elisabeth Littig (†1866) whose father originated in Knopshof, Germany.

While still living in The Netherlands, Adriana and Andreas had 7 children:

1. Elizabeth was born on 22 April 1839 in Dordrecht and died on 22 Dec. 1848 in Rotterdam, aged 9.
   
2. Jillis was born on 14 July 1841 in Dordrecht. He may have died in 1894.
   
3. Johannes Adrianus was born on 1 Feb. 1844 in Dordrecht. He died in Rotterdam on 15 Sep. 1846, aged 2½.
4. Adriana Johanna was born on 28 April 1846 in Rotterdam.
5. Johanna was born on 15 July 1848 in Rotterdam. She died there on 22 Feb. 1850, aged 1½.
   
6. Elizabeth was born on 12 April 1851 in Rotterdam. She died in Dordrecht on 26 Sep. 1855, aged 4.
7. Andreas was born on 10 July 1853 in Rotterdam. He died in Dordrecht on 27 Sep. 1855, aged 2.

At first Adriana and Andreas were living in Dordrecht. Around 1845 they moved to Rotterdam. In October 1855 the whole family returned to Dordrecht. In September 1855 their 2 youngest children died, likely as a result of a contagious disease. Both in Rotterdam and Dordrecht Andreas Bax was working as a tailor.

In 1856 Adriana van der Koogh and her 2 remaining children Jilles (13) and Adriana (10) boarded ship and traveled from Hellevoetsluis - near Rotterdam - to New York. Her husband had likely already crossed the ocean, because I can't find any death date for him in The Netherlands.

Intermarriage in the Goossens family

Martinus Goossens and his German wife Anna Catharina Görts (also: Geurts) ^* had 8 children, but 3 of them died young. Anna Catharina was born around 1749 in Dülcken in Germany. Her parents are Johan Antoon Görtz and Helena Syben. Martinus was baptized on 23 February 1750 in Venlo in The Netherlands. His parents are Antoon Goossens and Maria van Daelen (1717-1785). Martinus Goossens died on 30 October 1819 in Venlo, aged 69.

On 9 September 1819 in Bree in Belgium his son Petrus Jacobus had married Maria Anna Alexandrina de Borman. Petrus Jacobus was baptized on 12 November 1790 in Venlo. Maria Anna was baptized on 24 December 1793 in Maastricht. Her parents are Jacobus Frederic Franciscus de Borman and his wife Maria Margaretha. Jacob Frederic was either born on baptized on 27 August 1761 in Maaseik in Belgium. His parents are François-Adrien de Borman (1732-1785) and Maria Jacqueline Angeline Coomans (1729-1816).

Maria Anna’s elder sister Maria Elisabeth Francisca de Borman was born or baptized on 27 February 1792 in Mheer in The Netherlands. She was married in 1822 in Bree. Maria Elisabeth’s groom was the youngest brother of Petrus Jacobus, Matthijs Ferdinand Goossens. He was baptized on 21 October 1791 in Venlo.

Petrus Jacobus Goossens and Maria Anna de Borman had 6 children, born in the period 1825-1837, and additionally they had some grandchildren. Matthijs Ferdinand Goossens and Elisabeth de Borman had 8 children, born in the period 1823-1838. Amongst them is August Theodoor Hubert Goossens (1838-1911) who is an ancestor – in the female line - of the Beltman family in Amersfoort.

Anna Catharina Görts, widow of Martinus Goossens, died on 13 February 1834 in Venlo. Elisabeth de Borman died at the age of 74 on 5 December 1866 in Venlo. Her widower, Matthijs Ferdinand Goossens, died on 28 December 1869 in Venlo, aged 78. Petrus Jacobus Goossens died on 30-3-1876 in Bree, aged 85. His widow, Maria Anna de Borman, died in Bree on 21 May 1877, aged 83.

Longevity ~ Maria Jabaaij (91)

Maria Jabaaij was baptized on February 21, 1779, in Strijen, Holland. She was born on the 19th. Her parents are Hendrik Jabaaij (1738-1806) and Lijsbeth (“Lijsje”) Kraak. Maria was the youngest of their 4 surviving children. Her elder siblings were Leendert (1768-1840), Lena (1772-1813) and Cornelis (1775-1841) Jabaaij.
Maria's paternal grandparents are Leendert Jabaaij and Lena Monster (1701-1761) who is a granddaughter of my ancestor Hendrijck Jansen Monster (±1610-±1658).

On May 26, 1805, in Klaaswaal, Holland, Maria (26) was married to Teunis Vos (33). Teunis was baptised in Klaaswaal on September 15, 1771. His parents are Hendrik Vos (±1745-1832) and Pietertje van Baaren.
Maria and Teunis had 3 children:

1. Hendrik was born on January 27, 1809, and baptized on the 29th in Klaaswaal. He first married Maria Bakker in 1839. He secondly married Adriana Werkhoven in 1877. Hendrik had issue. He died on February 1, 1879, in Klaaswaal.
2. Adrianus was born on the 13th, and baptized on September 15, 1811, in Klaaswaal. He died there on September 29, 1859, aged 48.
   
3. Elisabeth was born on October 10, 1814, in Klaaswaal. She was married there in 1839 to Adrianus Herweijer (1810-1881). Elisabeth, aged 25, died - 15 days after giving birth - on May 19, 1840, in Klaaswaal. The baby, her only child, had died on the 8th.

Teunis Vos died in Klaaswaal on July 18, 1843, aged 72. Maria Jabaaij survived her husband for 27 years, dying in Klaaswaal on November 24, 1870, aged 91.

Maria's brother Leendert had a son Dingeman Jabaaij (1796-1872) who emigrated to the U.S.A. with his wife and children. He is buried in Cook County, Illinois.

Arie Baars married and divorced his cousin Japina Stal

First cousins Japina Stal (33) and Arie Baars (31) were married on 28 June 1907 in Rotterdam, Holland.
The groom, Arie Baars, was born on 31 November 1875 in Oud-Beijerland, Holland. His parents are Cornelis Baars (1840-1916) and Maatje Willeboordse (1845-1904).
Japina, the bride, was born in Rotterdam on 31 August 1873. Her parents are Arie Johannes Stal (1838-1916) and Aletta Baars (1844-1919). Aletta and Cornelis Baars are both children of Arij Baars (1818-1881) and Jaapje de Koning (1820-1875). Cornelis was born on 17 February 1840 in Oud-Beijerland, and named after his grandfather Cornelis Baars (1793-1876). Aletta was born in Oud-Beijerland on 7 December 1844, and named after Cornelis' wife Aletta Vink (1794-1867).

In 1903 Japina's family exploited a catering facility named “Lommerrijk” in Hillegersberg (now part of Rotterdam). Operator of the tavern was Japina's father Arie Johannes Stal. The other people involved were his sons Willem Arie Stal (1866-1946) and Arie Willem Stal (1868-1946), his son-in-law Anthonie Willem Zijlmans, husband of Neeltje Stal (1870-1942), and his daughter Japina. A fifth child, Alettta Helena Stal, had died as a teenager.

Who are the parents of Conrard Nijpels of Maastricht ?

Among the ancestors of the Beltman family in Amersfoort is the Nijpels family in Maastricht. One of them is Conrard Nijpels who married Marguerite Dreesens.
They had at least five children:

1. 
   Andreas Nijpels was baptised on 12 January 1720 in Maastricht with witness Christin Nijpels who was replaced by Isabella Nijpels.
2. Leonard Nijpels was baptised on 24 September 1723 in Maastricht with witnesses Leonard Nijst and Christina Nijpels.
   
3. Henricus Martinus Nijpels was baptised on 11 November 1728 in Maastricht with witnesses Henricus Dreesens and Maria Meijs. His wife is Anna Ida van Heylerhoff. He died on 15 August 1816 in Maastricht, aged 87.
4. Christina Nijpels was baptised on 25 January 1726 in Maastricht with witnesses Sebastiaen Paesch and Maria Catharina Nijpels.
   
5. Marie Christine Nijpels was baptised on 20 February 1722 in Maastricht with witnesses Joachim de Helmer and Christin Nijst. She married Paul Reijniers and had at least two children. Paul Reijniers, his wife and merchant Pieter Reijniers were mentioned together in a notarial deed dated 29-1-1803 in Breda. Marie Christine died on 17 November 1811 in Maastricht, aged 89.
   She is the mother of
1. Petrus Dominicus Martinus Reijniers who was born around 1765. He died on 9 January 1835 in Maastricht, aged 69. 
2. Maria Margaretha Reijniers who was born on 24-3-1758 in Mheer (a village southeast of Maastricht). Maria was married in Mheer on 20 October 1785 to  Jacobus Frederic Franciscus (Jacob Frederic Frans) de Borman. He was born on 17 August 1761 in Mheer. His parents are François Adrien Alexandre (François-Adrien) de Borman en Maria Jacqueline Angeline Coomans. Jacob was the mayor of Bree in Belgium. He died in Bree in 1797. His widow died in Mheer on 12 July 1848, aged 90. Their daughter Maria Elisabeth Francisca de Borman (1792-1866) married Matthieu Ferdinand Goossens (1791-1869).

In the 17th century the Nijpels family had at least two male members named Conrard and both had a father named Guilielm (“Willem”) and a mother named Maria:

1. One Conrard Nijpels was baptised on 12 May 1691 in Maastricht - as son of Guilielm Nijpels, baptised on 10 November 1641 in Maastricht, and married there on 25 June 1672 to Maria Haenen.
2. Another Conrard Nijpels was baptised on 25 January 1665 in Maastricht - as son of Guilielm Nijpels, baptised on 8 Janury 1620 in Maastricht, and his wife Maria Brouwers. This Conrad was married on 9 January 1687 to Maria Wijnandts.
   

In 1739 in Maastricht, Conrard Nijpels represented Hendrik Nijpels. The younger Conrard did have a brother named Hendrik Dominicus. It's possible that the elder Conrard remarried, and lived to a quite old age, but my bed is on the younger Conrard as the husband of Marguerite Dreesens.

Since the elder Conrard is an uncle of the younger Conrard, both are descended from Guilielm Nijpels and his wife Christina Spauwen (who were married in 1613), and Reyner Nypels and his wife Elisabeth Bals (who were married in 1581).

Wordless Wednesday ~ Quadruplets in 1642 in Dordrecht

Josijntje Davids and Jan Pietersz. had quadruplets baptized on 8-1-1642 in Dordrecht in Holland. The children were named Susanneke, Pieter, Lydia and David.

Goldchen Lewertoff left for Hamburg

Goldchen Lewertoff was born on 18 April 1854 in Lübeck in Germany. She married merchant Hartog Stoppelman in May 1896 in Delfzijl near Groningen in The Netherlands. Hartog was born on 1 April 1863 in nearby Nieuwe Pekela. His parents were merchant Arond Stopplman (1827-1891) and his wife Hendrijetta Meiberg (1828-1905).

In the spring of 1908 Hartog and Goldchen left Lübeck for Rotterdam in Holland. Early 1909, however, Goldchen left for Hamburg in Germany. Soon thereafter Hartog left for Sneek in the North of The Netherlands. On May 19th, he was sentenced to 14 days of imprisonment. By August Hartog was back in Rotterdam.
Hartog's sister Hendeltje Stoppelman (1844-1914) had married Israël van Coeverden. Their daughter Roosje was born on 6 April 1876 in Coevorden and gave birth in Rotterdam on 15 June 1899 to an illegitimate daughter named Heintje. Heintje lived for a while with her great-uncle Hartog in Rotterdam.

With his wife staying in Germany, Hartog Stoppelman decided to file for a divorce. It was approved by the court in Rotterdam on 15 October 1917. The divorce was registered on 22 March 1918 in The Hague.

Nederlandsche Staatscourant, 12-9-1918

On 12 July 1922 in Rotterdam Hertog Stoppelman, aged 59, finally remarried. His bride was 43-year-old Hester van Blankestein. She was born on 31 October 1862 in IJsselmonde, south of Rotterdam. Her parents are Barend van Blankestein (1831-1893) and Chonetta van de Waal (1837-1906).
At the age of 42, on 8 November 1911 in Rotterdam, Hester had married 52-year-old Jacob Schustirowitz. Jacob was widower of Rosa Galoen (1863-1910) whom he had married in 1884 in Groningen. He was born on 9 July 1859 in Sebastopol in Russia as son of Izaak Schustirowitz and Anna Macen. Jacob had died on 5 June 1918 in Rotterdam, aged 58.

At the age of 72, Hertog Stoppelman died in Rotterdam on 27 June 1935. His widow, Hester van Blankenstein, died around 15 October 1942 in Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland. Her death was finally registered in Rotterdam in 1951.

Longevity ~ Sija (90) & Helena Josina (93) Bax

In Dordrecht, Holland, on 26 May 1820, Jacoba van Efferen (1798-1863) gave birth to a son whom she named Gerrit. Jacoba is a daughter of Gerrit van Efferen and Jacoba van Dalen, so she named her son after her father. Earlier, on 29 January 1819, Jacoba had given birth to a girl named Martina. She was named after Martijntje Vijfwijk, wife of Bernardus Stam, and mother of Jacob Bernardus Stam.
Jacob Bernardus Stam married Jacoba van Efferen on 13 September 1820 in Dordrecht, and the children Martijntje and Gerrit were legitimized. 

At the age of 23, Gerrit Stam married 24-year-old Sija Bax in Dordrecht on 31 May 1843. Sija was born on 31 October 1818 in Dordrecht. Her parents are Johannes Bax (1794-1833) and Elisabeth Littig (†1866). Sija was named after her grandmonther Sijgje van Wingerden (†1801), wife of Andries Littig (also Lieddig) who was born in Knopshof in Germany

Among other siblings, Sija Bax had 2 younger sisters: Helena Jozina, born on 22 January 1824 in Dordrecht, and Elisabeth Johanna, born there on 8 July 1827. On 31 May 1843 in Dordrecht those 2 sisters were married to 2 brothers, Adrianus and Jan Willem 't Hart.
At the age of 26, Jan Willem 't Hart (1832-1895) married Elisabeth Johanna 't Hart, aged 31, and they had 3 children. Elisabeth Johanna died there on 12 March 1907, aged 79.

Adrianus 't Hart was born on 13 June 1836 in Gorinchem, Holland. At the age of 22, he married 34-year-old Helena Jozina Bax. They had a son, who died at the age of 3, and a surving daughter Cornelia Elizabeth, named after her two grandmothers. In Dordrecht Adrianus worked as sigarmaker. Later, the couple moved to Nieuw-Lekkerland, Holland. At the age of 29, their only daughter married Jacob Breedveld. They had surving children named Soetje Helena Jozina and Pieter Adrianus Breedveld.

The marriage of Sija Bax and Gerrit Stam seems to have remained childless. Gerrit died on 6 June 1873 in Dordrecht, aged 53. Sija died there on 22 April 1909, aged 90.

Adrianus 't Hart died on 12 December 1892 in Nieuw-Lekkerland. Helena Jozina died there on 29 January 1917, aged 93.

Teunis Klootwyk (1865-1938) and his wives

Teunis (“Tunis”) Klootwyk was born on 11 August 1865 in Pella, Iowa. He is one of two sons of Johannes Klootwijk and his first wife Gezenna Maria Mathilda Krijnders. Johannes Klootwijk was born on 10 December 1836 in Kedichem in The Netherlands, as a son of an earlier Teunis Klootwijk whose 18th-century ancestors were living in Dussen in The Netherlands.
In the USA Johannes was known as "John". He married his second wife in Pella on 20 March 1879, when his eldest son Teunis was 13 years old. John Klootwijk lived to the old age of 80, and died on 16 November 1917 in Pella.

Pella, Iowa

Teunis Klootwyk married his first wife Mary de Bond on 18 December 1888. They had 7 sons in the period 1889-1902^*. Mary died, aged 34, on 13 May 1870 in Pella.

Teunis married his second wife Neeltje (“Nellie”) Toll on 29 Noember 1906 in Pella. Nellie was born on 13 july 1880 in Barendrecht, Holland. Her parents are Arie Tol (1834-19150 and his fourth wife Arendje Zevenbergen (1849-1919). Nellie arrived in the USA with her parents at the age of seventien. Her first husband was Everett van Engelenhoven (1872-1904).
In Washington Township, Iowa, Nellie and Teunis had two sons - Ira Nelson (1908-2000) and Nelson Tunis (1911-1991) - and a baby who lived for just four weeks. Nellie died on 7 September 1911, nine weeks after the birth of her youngest child.

In 1916 Teunis married his fourth wife Minnie or Jennie van Steenis. She was born on 19 February 1879 in Pella and died on 14 October 1920 in Melcher-Dallas, Iowa. She had earlier been married in 1889 to Philip Schmidt (1851-1915).

Marriage Impediments

A couple that wants to marry should make known their intention of contraction marriage several weeks before the date set for their marriage. That way time is left for objections to be made - if there are reasons why the marriage cannot take place.
This article is about under what circumstances a marriage is forbidden by the Catholic Church; some reasons are in themselves sufficient to invalidate it altogether, others do not absolutely prevent the possibility of marriage, but render it undesirable and harmful.

Nullifying impediments of marriage are:

• Abduction;  if a man compels a woman to marry him, threatening to kill her in case of refusal, or to do her some very serious injury, their marriage is not valid; her consent is extorted by force, and is not given voluntarily;
• Crime, like causing the death of a partner by mutual cooperation, either physical or moral;
• Blood relationship to all in the direct line, and to the third degree in the collateral line;
• Affinity or relationship through marriage to all in the direct line, and to the second degree in the collateral line;
• Mistaken identity, when there is a mistake as to one of the contracting parties;
• Spiritual relationship, which exists between a baptized person, and the one who baptized him, or stood for him in Baptism;
• Legal adoption; wherever it is an impediment under the civil law.

Cornelis de Quaasteniet (1862-1942) married 2 sisters

Carpenter Cornelis de Quaatsteniet was born in Ridderkerk, Holland, on 1 February 1862 as the eldest son of Adrianus de Quaatsteniet (1831-1914) and Johanna de Haan (1831-1906). Cornelis had siblings named Clasina (1856-1901), Leendert (1864-1895), Aart (1867-1890), Maria (1870-1939) and Johannes (1874-1938).

Cornelis de Quaatsteniet

At the age of 24, on 1 February 1886 in Rotterdam, Cornelis married Johanna Verkaik. She was born in Stolwijk, Holland, on 10 September 1862. Her parents are Pieter Verkaik (1835-1921) and Lena Buitelaar (1833-1918). Johanna's maternal grandparents are Klaas Middelkoop (1769-1820) and Lena Uittenbroek (1784-1843).
Johanna gave birth to 5 children named Adrianus (1887-1966), Pieter (1888-1911), Lena (1891-1916), Aart (1892-1892) and Johanna (1894-1971).
On 30 Augustus 1895 in Rotterdam, at the age of just 32, Johanna Verkaik died.

After 7 years as a widower, Cornelis remarried on 17 December 1902. His new bride was a younger sister of his first wife, 36-year-old Neeltje Verkaik. They needed a dispensation to get married. They had a daughter legalized, Cornelia, born on 13 January 1898 in Rotterdam.

Neeltje Verkaik was born on 10 April 1866 in Stolwijk. While married, Neeltje gave birth to another daughter named Neeltje (1904-1980), too. Neeltje Verkaik died on 6 September 1907 in Rotterdam, aged 41. Her elder daughter Cornelia died on 20 May 1992, aged 94.

Cornelis de Quaatsteniet survived his second wife for nearly 35 years. He died in psychiatric hospital “Maasoord” in Poortugaal on 1 July 1942 around 22:30.

Longevity - Adrianus Roos (97)

When Adrianus Roos died on 12 December 1891 in Nieuw-Beijerland in Holland, he had reached the age of 97 years and 3½ months. Adrianus Roos had survived both his wives and 12 of his 15 children.

Adrianus Roos was born on 31 August 1794 in Heinenoord in Holland, and baptized there on 7 September with as witness his maternal grandmother Catharijna de Jong (±1728-1806). Adrianus' parents are Arie Roos (1766-1840) and Hermina Stolk (1762-1839). It seems that Adrianus' only sister Annigje and youngest brother Pieter both died young. His other siblings were Arie Roos (1789-1857), Jan Roos (1792-1838), Leendert Roos (1796-1872) and Gerrit Roos (1800-1832).

On 8 February 1818 in Nieuw-Beijerland Adrianus Roos married Aartje Klootwijk. Aartje was born on 17 April 1794 in Heinenoord. Her parents are Annigje Groen and Gerrit Klootwijk. Gerrit is a male-line descendant of my ancestor Aert Crijnensz. who lived around 1600.
Aartje endured 15 pregnancies. Tree children were death at birth. Tree sons, all named Gerrit, died as a baby, a fourth Gerrit died at the age of 13, while a daughter named Grietje died at the age of 1. Their other children were Annigje (69), Arij (81), Hermijna (68), Gerritje (36), Pieter (63), Elisabeth (80) and Janna (25).

On 3 July 1856 in Nieuw-Beijerland 61-year-old widower Adrianus Roos was married to 48-year-old Adriaantje van der Weijden, widow of Barend Willem Klijnsmit (1805-1847) and mother of several children. Adriaantje was born on 29 November 1807 in Nieuw-Beijerland. Her parents are Dirk van der Weijden (1769-1817) and Pietertje de Bruin (1775-1850).
After nearly 30 years of marriage, Adriaantje died in Nieuw-Beijerland on 5 February 1886, aged 78. At that time only his children Hermijna (1827-1895), Pieter (1830-1893), Elisabeth (1839-1919) and Janna (1842-1867) were still alive.

The illegitimate children of Margrieta de Groot (1804-66)

Margrieta de Groot was born on 29 September 1804 and baptised on 7 October in Streefkerk. Her parents are Willem de Groot (1764-1827) and his second wife Marrigje Potuit (1774-1842). Her father had 2 surviving children from his first marriage: Aart (1789-1854) and Ingje (1792-1849). Margrieta addionally had 3 younger siblings who grew to adulthood: Adriana (1810-1866), Cornelis (1812-1858) and Willemijntje (1815-1900).

Margrieta’s father died on 21 Febraury 1827 in Streefkerk, aged 62. On 22 December 1829 in Streefkerk Margrieta gave birth to an illegitimate son whom she named Willem after her father. Four years later, on 2 October 1832 in Streefkerk, Margrieta gave birth to another illegitimate son whom she named Daam after both a brother who had died young, and her paternal grandfather Daam Potuit.

On 23 December 1837 in Streefkerk Margrieta, aged 33, married Jan Eikelboom, aged 30. Jan was born on 16 September 1807 and baptised on 4 October in Alblasserdam. His parents are Willem Eijkelenboom (1758-1842) and Theuntje Brandwijk (1777-1823). With Jan Margrieta had 2 daughters who both died at the age of 1. Jan and his eldest daughter Teuntje both died on 17 September 1839 in Streefkerk. His younger daughter Marrigje died there on 11 January 1841. Margrieta’s mother, Marrigje Potuit, died on 12 April 1842 in Streefkerk, aged 67.

On 6 November 1841 in Streefkerk Margrieta, aged 37, married Leendert Groenendijk. He was born on 10 February 1798 and baptized on the 18th in Streefkerk. His parents are Klaas Groenedijk and Ariaantje de Haan. Leendert was widower of Johanna Hooijbouw (1780-1838) and had a daughter Adriaantje Groenendijk (1820-1887).
Leendert and Margarieta had 4 sons named Klaas and one son named Leendert but they all died before the age of 2.

On 14 October 1850 in Streefkerk Margrieta’s eldest son Willem de Groot died, aged 20. Her only surviving child was her second son Daam de Groot. Daam was married on 19 January 1867 in Streefkerk to Meintje Kwakernaak (1833-1911), a daughter of Wouter Kwakernaak and Martijntje Bouwman. Of their children the daughters Margrietha Adriana and Willemijntje survived to adulthood.

Daam de Groot did military service from 1854 to 1859.

Dingena

The female first name Dingena or “Digna” is related to the Latin word “dignum” with the meaning “worthy”.

The first Dingena in this line was also known as “Digna”. She was baptized on 12-4-1733 in Loon op Zand, Brabant, as daughter of Michiel Hommel and Jacomijn or Heremijn de Geus (†1777). She had a sister named Hermijna Hommel (1735-1819).
On 11-5-1756 in Loon op Zand, Dingena Hommel married Dirk van der Leij. Dirk was baptized on 17-10-1730 in Loon op Zand as son of Wouter van der Leij and Theodora de Rooij. Dingena died on 27-12-1802, and her burial in Loon op Zand was recorded on 3-1-1803.
Among Dingena's children were Dingena van der Leij and Wouter van der Leij (1756-1826). Wouter was married in 1788 to Geertruij van Diemen (1759-1804). The eldest of their 11 children was Dingena van der Leij.

Dingena van der Leij was baptized on 26-10-1788 in 's-Grevelduin-Capelle in Brabant. She was married in Loon op Zand on 4-10-1807 to Hendrik Dekkers (1784-1865), son of Adriaan Dekkers (1751-1828) and Teuntje Leempoel (1756-1830). One of their youngest children was Dingena Dekkers.

Dingena Dekkers was born on 27-11-1820 in Loon op Zand. She was married there on 28-4-1844 to Eland Nieuwenhuizen (1820-1890), son of Hendrik Nieuwenhuizen. Dingena died on 4-2-1827 in Loon op Zand. One of her children was Dingena Nieuwenhuizen.

Dingena Nieuwenhuizen was born on 15-4-1851 in Loon op Zand. She was married twice.
Dingena married her first husband Adriaan Werther on 14-10-1875 in Loon op Zand. He was born in Sprang on 23-9-1840. They had daughters named Hendrika and Dingena Pieternella. Their sons Eland and Adriaan both died young. Adriaan Werther died on 16-5-1878 in Loon op Zand.
Dingena married her second husband Pieter de Rooij (1853-1908) on 9-8-1889 in Loon op Zand. Pieter was born on 18-4-1853 in 's-Grevelduin-Capelle as eldest son of Gerrit de Rooij (1822-1882) and Pieternella Rosenbrand (1822-1887). In her second marriage Dingena had 4 children; Gerrit Pieter (1890-1959), the twins Eland and Pieter who both died as babies, and another Pieter, who died as a teenager.
Dingena van Nieuwenhuizen died on 11-8-1904 in 's-Grevelduin-Capelle, aged 53. Her widower, Pieter de Rooij, died there on 21-2-1908, aged 54.

Johannes George Vrolijk (1920-43) in WWII

Johannes George Vrolijk

Johannes George Vrolijk was executed in the Tegel area of Berlin, Germany, on 4 June 1943, aged 23. He had been part of a World War II resistance group known as the "Strijkelgroep". In the spring of 1941, 47 men and women of this group were arrested by the Nazi's. Johannes George Vrolijk was one of the 32 people executed on 4 June 1943. The others were send to prison camps. Just 3 women and 1 man of the group survived the horrors of the German concentration camps.

Johannes George Vrolijk was born on 30 April 1920 in Zwijndrecht, Holland, as eldest son of Johannes George Vrolijk (1888-1983) and his wife Baartje den Hoed. His paternal grandparents were Johannes George Vrolijk (1862-1949) and Neeltje Bos (1860-1936). Neeltje is a granddaughter of my ancestor Cent Leenderts Bos (±1787-1869). In the paternal line Johannes George Vrolijk descends from a Jakob Fröhlich of German origin.

Longevity ~ Pieter de Jong (95)

Pieter de Jong was baptized on April Fools' Day in 1759 in Oud-Alblas in Holland with witness Jannigje de Jong. Pieter is the 10th and youngest child of Tijs de Jong and Jannigje Kooijmans.

Pieter de Jong married Neeltje Stichter on 3 May 1801 in Oud-Alblas, Holland

Pieter de Jong was married on 3 May 1801 in Oud-Alblas to Neeltje Stichter. She was baptized on 30 October 1774 in Noordeloos. Her parents are Claas Stigter and Pieternella de Kluijt.

Pieter de Jong and Neeltje Stigter had 9 children:

1. Jannigje de Jong was born on 17-2-1802 and baptized on 21-02-1802 in Oud-Alblas with widness Marijgje de Jong. Jannigje married Jan Korporaal in 1827. He died in 1859. Jannigje survived him. Among their children was Marigje Korporaal, born on 16-7-1828 in Oud-Alblas, who reached the age of 93 before she die don 6-5-1922 in Oud-Alblas. 
2. Tijs de Jong was born on 4-9-1803 and baptized on 11-9-1803 in Oud-Alblas with witness Marijgje de Jong. At the age of 51, Tijs married 40-year0old Wouterina Groeneweg. Tijs die don 12-3-1874 in Oud-Alblas, aged 70.
3. Pieternella de Jong was born 26-3-1805 and baptized on 31-3-1805 in Oud-Alblas with witness Ariaantje Kooijwijk, wife of Jan Stichter. At the age of 40, Pieternella married 48-year-old Cornelis Hardam. Pieternella died on 5-8-1876 in Alblasserdam, aged 71. 
4. Klaas de Jong was born on 28-03-1806 and baptized on 30-3-1806 in Oud-Alblas with witness Ariaantje Kooijwijk. Klaas married Dirkje Boer. He died on 5-6-1879 in Alblasserdam, aged 73.
5. Arie de Jong was born on 19-5-1808 and baptized on 19-6-1808 in Oud-Alblas. Arie was married on 18-11-1843 in Nieuw-Lekkerland to Aartje Berkouwer, born on 17-2-1821 in Nieuw-Lekkerland. Arie died on 15-11-1859 in Alblasserdam, aged 51. 



Teunis de Jong
(1816-1876)

6. Willempje de Jong was born on 7-12-1810 and baptized on 16-12-1810 in Oud-Alblas with widness Ariaantje Kooijwijk. In 1835 Willempje married Hendrik de Haan. Willempje died on 23-10-1874 in Alblasserdam, aged 63. 
7. Marthijnus de Jong was born on 17-6-1812 and baptized on 28-06-1812 in Oud-Alblas with widness Marijgje de Jong. Marthijnus married Martijntje van Rijnsbergen in 1840. He died on 12-10-1892 in Oud-Alblas at the age of 80. 
8. Jan de Jong was born on 23-1-1815 in Oud-Alblas and baptized on 5-3-1815 in Oud-Olblas. Jan died there on 14-3-1845, aged 30. 
9. Teunis de Jong was born on 5-6-1816 in Oud-Alblas. He married 3 times, had issue, and emigrated to the USA. His third wife was Lijntje Boer (1812-1891).

Pieter's elder brother Adriaan de Jong (1736-1823) reached the age of 88. Pieter's wife, Neeltje Stigter, died on 7-2-1829 in Oud-Alblas, aged 54. Pieter de Jong survived his wife for 25 years and reached the age of 95. He died on 26 June 1854 in Oud-Alblas.

Sniper Lubbert Bos

The muster books of the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army (KNIL) mention Lubbert Bos in 1916. I found Lubbert Bos employed in Indonesia as fusilier and sniper in 1919. His height was 175 cm, and he had tattoos on both arms. On December 8, 1921, he was reported as “missing”, but by January 5, 1922, he was back. In August he was again “missing”, and by September 10 he was back.
Lubbert Bos returned from Indonesia with the SS Rembrandt, arriving in Amsterdam on April 19, 1923.

Short-lived Marriage ~ Adriaantje Heijltje Koomans (1813-42)

Adriaantje Heijltje (“Adriaantje”) Koomans was born on 29 June 1813 in Willemstad, Brabant, The Netherlands, as the eldest daughter of Nicolaas Koomans (±1753-1829) and his fourth wife Catharine ("Kaatje") Timmers (±1786-1846). ;Adriaantje's surviving full siblings were Heiltje Adriaantje (1816-1901), Maaijke (1818-1887) and Nicolaas (1822-1869). Their eldest half-sibling was Pieter Koomans (1779-1846). Another half-sibling with another mother was Jacobus Koomans (1797-1874). In 1917 he married Anna Margaretha Wonders (1797-1860). Their eldest daughter Maaike Francisca Koomans was born on 16 April 1818 in Delfshaven near Rotterdam.

At the age of 23, Adriaantje Koomans was married on 26-5-1837 in Willemstad to Auke (“Omke”) Tolk. He was born on 4 September 1802 in Jisp in Holland, as son of Jacob Tolk (1778-1835) and his wife Jannetje Bakker. Auke had - among others - a younger sibling named Jacob, born on 29 January 1817 in Medemblik, Holland. At the age of 25, Jacob was married on 29 June 1842 in Delft, Holland, to 24-year-old Maaike Francina Koomans, Adriaantje's half-niece. Jacob Tolk jr. worked as a pharmacist and lived in Amsterdam. He had a son named Jacobus Tolk (1848-1928).

Opregte Haarlemsche Courant, 17-3-1838: Birth of a daughter.

In 1840 Auke was living in Leiden and working as a grocer. Meanwhile, his wife Adriaantje gave birth to the following children:

1. Catharina Johanna Francina was born on 10 March 1838 around 11:00 in Medemblik. She was married in 1859 in Utrecht to Thomas Karel Jacobus Kraat. As a widow she was remarried in 1872 in Breda to Boudewijn Jacobus Couvee. She died on 8 May 1913 in Arnhem, aged 75. She had issue.
   
2. Johanna Hillegonda was born on 2 March 1840 in Leiden. She died on 28 July 1855 in Bergen op Zoom, Brabant, The Netherlands, aged 15.
   
3. Nicolaas Jacob was born on 29 March 1842 in Leiden. He died on 4 November 1902 in Apeldoorn, aged 60.
   

Leydse Courant, 10-6-1842: Obituary of Adriaantje Heiltje Koomans.

Two months after the birth of her youngest child, Adriaantje Heiltje Koomans died on 4 June 1842 in Leiden, aged just 28. Her widower Auke Tolk survived her by one and a half year, dying on 14 February 1844 in Leiden, aged 41. Their orphaned children were probably taken in by their maternal aunt Heiltje Adriaantje Koomans (1816-1901) who lived in Bergen op Zoom. At the time of the first marriage of the couple's eldest daughter Catharina, Nicolaas Koomans (1822-1869) was her guardian.
