4 times Cornelis Hendrik Zijderveld in Rotterdam

On 3 September 1913 the body of Cornelis Hendrik Zijderveld (28) was found in the River Maas in Rotterdam. He used to work with ore. Newspapers of that date report that a 28-year-old docker was doing a job on the steamship “Bacchus”, when he fell overboard and drowned. His body was recovered on the same day.

This Cornelis Hendrik Zijderveld (III) was married on 9 September 1908 in Rotterdam to Geertruida Weiss (19). She was born on Rotterdam on 2 January 1889 in Rotterdam as daughter of Helena Johanna Seelbach and Georg Weiss (who was born in Buurmalsen in The Netherlands).
Cornelis Hendrik and Geertruida had a son named Cornelis Hendrik Zijderveld IV (1909-1912), and additional daughters named Helena Johanna and Elisabeth. The widow, Geertruida Weiss, was to marry 2 more times: her 2nd husband was Adrianus Soek and her 3rd husband was Philip Ernst Oudenaarden. Geertruide Weiss died on 21 March 1961 in Rotterdam at the age of 72.

Cornelis Hendrik Zijderveld III was born on 23 October 1884 in Rotterdam as illegitimate son of Elisabeth Janssens of Antwerp. He had an elder brother Johannes Philippus Zijderveld, born on 4 June 1882 in Rotterdam. At the age of 29, Elisabeth was married on 16-6-1886 in Rotterdam to Cornelis Hendrik Zijderveld II, and her 2 sons were registered with the marriage. Elisabeth was a daughter of Franciscus Philippus Janssens and Petronella Hoeben. More children followed, like Maria Josephina, Elisabeth Petronella and, on 25 April 1889 in Kralingen (now part of Rotterdam): Franciscus Philippus. Elisabeth Jansses died on 18 March 1927 in Rotterdam at the age of 70. Cornelis Hendrik Zijderveld II died, aged 78, on 25 November 1935 in Hillegersberg (now part of Rotterdam).

Cornelis Hendrik Zijderveld II was born on 6 December 1856 in Rotterdam. His mother is Maria Magdalena Duran, born on 12 January 1927 in The Hague and died on 20 April 1900 in Rotterdam. Her parents are Johannes Duran and Maria Magdalena Wesbroek. She was married to Cornelis Hendrik Zijderveld who was born on 12 October 1923 in The Hague as son of Gerrit Zijderveld and Jacomina Versteegh. Cornelis Hendrik Zijderveld I died on 9 October 1903 in Rotterdam.

    1. Working conditions were bad in those days so an accident is more likely than being pushed on purpose.
