The family of Charles Joseph Victor Marie Goossens (1862-1915)

Eugène Nicolaas Hubert Goossens (1827-1903) and his wife Catherine Victorine Honoré (1838-1866) were living in Liège in Belgium where they were married in 1856. Eugène was born in Bree in Belgium as son of the Dutch couple Petrus Jacobus Goossens (1790-1876) and Maria Anna Alexandrina de Borman (1793-1877) who had settled in Bree.

Eugène and his wife had two sons: Pierre François Eugène Marie Maurice Goossens (1857-1890) and Charles Joseph Victor Marie Goossens (1862-1915). Charles was married on 22 October 1889 in Liège to Laurence Elise Marie Larroque. She was born on 20 October 1866 in Liège as daughter of Frenchman Mathieu Ernest Larroque (1841-1922) and his wife Joséphine Eugénie Stembert (1829-1915).

Marcel François Ernest Goossens was born on 26-10-1892 in Liège in Belgium

While Charles and Laurence were living in Liège, they had four children: Eugène Charles Ernest, born in 1890, Marcel François Ernest, Jeanne Marie Louise (1894-1917) and Georges Eugène Ernest, born in 1900.
Their second son, Marcel François Ernest, was born on 26 October 1892 in Liège. He married Suzanna Beaumartin on 8 April 1920 in Bordeaux in France. Suzanna was born there on 26 August 1894. The couple had children named Jeanne, Pierre, Arlette and Jean Marie.
Arlette Monique Henriette Georgette Goossens was born on 2 April 1926 in Bordeaux, and died there on 29 October 2021, at the age of 95.

Sons of Emile Jean Hubert Wolters in Uppsala and Bloomfield

Emile Jean Hubert Wolters was born in Venlo, The Netherlands, on 2 September 1864. His parents are Josephina Gertrudis Hubertina van Meijel (1841-1906) and Jean Louis Hubert Wolters (1836-1900). Emile's paternal grandparents are Jean Gerard Hubert Wolters (1810-1889) and Maria Gertrudis Custers (1808-1894). They are also ancestors of the Beltman family in Amersfoort.

The obituary advertisement for Emile's widow mentions descendants in the Southeastern part of The Netherlands, in Uppsala in Sweden, and also in Bloomfield in the U.S.A. Emile's eldest son, Jan Laurent Wolters, was born on 4 March 1896 in Venlo. He lived for a while in Heerlen. In 1920 he moved to Rotterdam where he earned a living as a soap merchant. For a while he lived in Cologne (Köln) in Germany. Early 1926 is the first time Jan Wolters and his wife Martha Böhm were mentioned in the U.S.A. They were then living in Amityville in Suffolk County.
Martha Böhm (1894-1991) had travelled from New York to Europe in 1915 with the ship "Noordam" I. On 1 March 1916 she left Rotterdam again for the U.S.A. with the same ship.

Emile's second son, Paul Wolters, was born on 11 January 1901 in Venlo. In 1926 he was still unmarried and living in Venlo. In 1936, however, Paul Wolters was living in Uppsala in Sweden. He had married a Swedish woman, Marthe Linquist. They had daughters Madeleine and Iona Martha Maria. Ioana Martha Maria was born on 28 August 1934, and died on 17 March 2021. She had married Stephen A. Farkas with whom she had shared 59 years of marriage. Her father, Paul Wolters, had died on 12 February 1954 in Uppsala at the age of 53.

A double Beltman marriage in 1890 in Iowa

Jan Hendrik (“John”) Beltman died on Sunday, 6 September 1890, at the Sheldon Hospital at the age of 94 years and 5 months. Three weeks earlier, John Beltman fell and broke his hip while living at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Arie Lucas of Sheldon.

John was born 19 April 1865 in Hoonte near Neede, The Netherlands. He had a sister Hendrika, born on 18 February 1867 in Dorpbuurt near Winterswijk, the Netherlands. Within 3 months, on 15 May 1867, their mother Aaltjen Nijhof, died at the age of 37.
Their father is farmer Hendrik Beltman, born on 3 November 1826 in Borculo, southwest of Neede, as son of an earlier Hendrik Beltman (1794-1854) and his wife Hendrika Schekman - also Scheggetman.
Hendrik married his second wife, Janna Grooters (24), on 20 September 1867 in Winterswijk. In July 1877 Hendrik, his wife and his children Jan Hendrik and Hendrika left The Netherlands for the USA.

The siblings Jan Hendrik and Hendrika Beltman were married on the same day in March 1890:

1. Jan Hendrik (“John”) married Jacomina Alida (“Minnie”) van Amerongen, born on 16 June 1870 in Amsterdam as eldest daughter of Garret van Amerongen (1861-1911) and his wife Femmetje Lamberta Roosma (1839-1903). John and Minnie farmed at the home place until they moved to Alton.
   Children: Jennie, Jacomina Alida, Henry, Fannie, Gerrit, Alice, William, Henrietta, and a child that died in infancy.
2. Hendrika Beltman married Willem (“William”) Geurink, born on 4 October 1865 in Lintelo, The Netherlands, as son of Evert Geurink (1830-1913) and Everdina Grootnibbelink (1837-1906).
   Children: Dena, Henry W., Everett, Gerrit, Jennie, Alice, Wilmina, William Everett, Harold E. Geurink.

Hendrik Beltman and his second wife celebrated their 25-year anniversary in 1892 in Aldon. In the summer of 1913, Johan and Hendrika Beltman and their spouses visited The Netherlands.

Hendrika Beltman died on 18 June 1932 in Iowa, and was buried at the Nassau Township Cemetery in Alton, Sioux City, Iowa. Her widower, William Geurink died on 23 February 1954 in Orange City.
Minnie van Amerongen died on 22 April 1931 in Orange City, Sioux County. As a widower, John Beltman live for a while with his youngest son William and his family. Later he returned to Alton, and made his home with his oldest daughter, Mrs. Anthony Schuller. In 1890 he moved to another daughter in Sheldon. Funeral services for John Beltman were held in the First Reformed Church of Alton, and internment was in Nassau Township Cemetery.

Longevity ~ Antonia Maria Huberta Receveur (98) in Venlo

Antonia Maria Huberta (“Tonie”) Receveur was born in Venlo in The Netherlands on 13 June 1867. She is one of the 10 children of  Maria Catharina Huberta Hollen (1834-1922) and Antonius Christophorus Franciscus (“Antoon”) Receveur (1814-1888). Tonie's paternal grandparents were Pierre François Michel (“Frans”) Receveur (1783-1829) and his wife Maria Ludovica Petronella Keuller (1787-1852).

The Receveur family were known as sellers of fabrics (“ellewaren”) in Venlo.

Tonie Receveur was married on 16 September 1890 in Venlo, aged 23. The groom was Jean Alexandre Hubert Eugène (“Eugène”) Goossens, born on 12 August 1860 in Venlo as son of Pieter Hendrik (“Henri”) Goossens (1814-1874) and Maria Florentina Hubertina (“Florence”) Goossens (1826-1913). Florence is a daughter of Mathijs Ferdinand Goossens (1791-1869) en Maria Elisabeth Francisca (“Elisabeth”) de Borman (1792-1866) who are also ancestors of the Beltman family in Amersfoort.

Tonie Receveur and Eugène Goossens had 7 children:

1.  Maria Henriette Florentine (“Mia”) Goossens (1891-1973).
2. Elise Florentine Henriette Hubertine (“Else”) Goossens (1892-1879) married Hugo Frans Marie Hubertus van der Loo in 1893.
3. Eugène Louis Charles Hubert Goossens (1894-1967) married Engelina Mathea Maria ("Engeline") van Romondt in 1922, and had issue.
4. Antonia Elisa Maria (“Tonny”) Goossens (1896-1987) married Antonius Henricus ("Toon") van Romondt, elder brother of "Engeline".
5.  Henri Chrétien Marie Hubert (1897-1993) was an engineer.
6. Wilhelmina Carolina Maria Huberta (“Mien”) Goossens (1898-1986) married Leonardus Henricus Hubertus Maria (“Leo”) Raymakers (1896-1968), and had issue.
7. Emilie Eugénie Hubertine Marie Anne Goossens (1907-1957).
   

The Goossens Family in Venlo and their Belgian wives

My late father-in-law owned a collection of personal record cards containing spaces for the genealogical information of a person, his parents and spouse. The children can be added at the back of the card. I received custody of this genealogy cards box. A lot of those cards are filled in with persons with the surname Goossens.

Marguerita Maria Louise Leonie Wilhelmine (“Margot”) Goossens (1912-1989), my father-in-law’s mother, belonged to a notable family in Venlo in the Southeast of The Netherlands. Margot’s father August Emile Alphons Marie Hubert Goossens (1882-1956) and her grandfather August Theodoor Hubert Goossens (1838-1911) were merchants of colonial goods.
The elder August was described as “a calm, reasonable man, for whom one must hold the highest esteem”. He was married around 1867 to Marie Louise Eugenie Hubertine Lumaije (1848-1907). Her father Félix François Lumaije (also: Lumay) was born around 1819 in Spy near Namur in Belgium. I’m very happy with the info on my father-in-law's personal record cards for my French is nearly non-existent.
Félix is a son of farmer Louis Joseph Ghislain Lumaije (1784-1835) and a grandson of Jean François Lumaije (1742-1810) who originated in Bois-de-Villers near Namur.

The calm and reasonable elder August Goossens is a son of Mathieu Ferdinand Goossens (1791-1869) who married Maria Elisabeth Francisca (“Elisabeth”) de Borman (1792-1866). Her sister Maria Anna Alexandrina ("Anna") de Borman (1793-1877) had married Petrus Jacobus (“Pierre”) Goossens (1790-1876), the elder brother of Mathieu Ferdinand. Pierre and Anna had 8 children including Eugene Nicolaas Hubert Goossens (1827-1903). Eugene was born in Bree in Belgium and married Catherine Victorine Honoré (1838-1866) who originated in Liège. Their son is Charles Joseph Victor Marie Goossens (1862-1915) who died on 14 December 1915 in Arcachon, Gironde, France.

Intermarriage in the Goossens family

Martinus Goossens and his German wife Anna Catharina Görts (also: Geurts) ^* had 8 children, but 3 of them died young. Anna Catharina was born around 1749 in Dülcken in Germany. Her parents are Johan Antoon Görtz and Helena Syben. Martinus was baptized on 23 February 1750 in Venlo in The Netherlands. His parents are Antoon Goossens and Maria van Daelen (1717-1785). Martinus Goossens died on 30 October 1819 in Venlo, aged 69.

On 9 September 1819 in Bree in Belgium his son Petrus Jacobus had married Maria Anna Alexandrina de Borman. Petrus Jacobus was baptized on 12 November 1790 in Venlo. Maria Anna was baptized on 24 December 1793 in Maastricht. Her parents are Jacobus Frederic Franciscus de Borman and his wife Maria Margaretha. Jacob Frederic was either born on baptized on 27 August 1761 in Maaseik in Belgium. His parents are François-Adrien de Borman (1732-1785) and Maria Jacqueline Angeline Coomans (1729-1816).

Maria Anna’s elder sister Maria Elisabeth Francisca de Borman was born or baptized on 27 February 1792 in Mheer in The Netherlands. She was married in 1822 in Bree. Maria Elisabeth’s groom was the youngest brother of Petrus Jacobus, Matthijs Ferdinand Goossens. He was baptized on 21 October 1791 in Venlo.

Petrus Jacobus Goossens and Maria Anna de Borman had 6 children, born in the period 1825-1837, and additionally they had some grandchildren. Matthijs Ferdinand Goossens and Elisabeth de Borman had 8 children, born in the period 1823-1838. Amongst them is August Theodoor Hubert Goossens (1838-1911) who is an ancestor – in the female line - of the Beltman family in Amersfoort.

Anna Catharina Görts, widow of Martinus Goossens, died on 13 February 1834 in Venlo. Elisabeth de Borman died at the age of 74 on 5 December 1866 in Venlo. Her widower, Matthijs Ferdinand Goossens, died on 28 December 1869 in Venlo, aged 78. Petrus Jacobus Goossens died on 30-3-1876 in Bree, aged 85. His widow, Maria Anna de Borman, died in Bree on 21 May 1877, aged 83.

Who are the parents of Conrard Nijpels of Maastricht ?

Among the ancestors of the Beltman family in Amersfoort is the Nijpels family in Maastricht. One of them is Conrard Nijpels who married Marguerite Dreesens.
They had at least five children:

1. 
   Andreas Nijpels was baptised on 12 January 1720 in Maastricht with witness Christin Nijpels who was replaced by Isabella Nijpels.
2. Leonard Nijpels was baptised on 24 September 1723 in Maastricht with witnesses Leonard Nijst and Christina Nijpels.
   
3. Henricus Martinus Nijpels was baptised on 11 November 1728 in Maastricht with witnesses Henricus Dreesens and Maria Meijs. His wife is Anna Ida van Heylerhoff. He died on 15 August 1816 in Maastricht, aged 87.
4. Christina Nijpels was baptised on 25 January 1726 in Maastricht with witnesses Sebastiaen Paesch and Maria Catharina Nijpels.
   
5. Marie Christine Nijpels was baptised on 20 February 1722 in Maastricht with witnesses Joachim de Helmer and Christin Nijst. She married Paul Reijniers and had at least two children. Paul Reijniers, his wife and merchant Pieter Reijniers were mentioned together in a notarial deed dated 29-1-1803 in Breda. Marie Christine died on 17 November 1811 in Maastricht, aged 89.
   She is the mother of
1. Petrus Dominicus Martinus Reijniers who was born around 1765. He died on 9 January 1835 in Maastricht, aged 69. 
2. Maria Margaretha Reijniers who was born on 24-3-1758 in Mheer (a village southeast of Maastricht). Maria was married in Mheer on 20 October 1785 to  Jacobus Frederic Franciscus (Jacob Frederic Frans) de Borman. He was born on 17 August 1761 in Mheer. His parents are François Adrien Alexandre (François-Adrien) de Borman en Maria Jacqueline Angeline Coomans. Jacob was the mayor of Bree in Belgium. He died in Bree in 1797. His widow died in Mheer on 12 July 1848, aged 90. Their daughter Maria Elisabeth Francisca de Borman (1792-1866) married Matthieu Ferdinand Goossens (1791-1869).

In the 17th century the Nijpels family had at least two male members named Conrard and both had a father named Guilielm (“Willem”) and a mother named Maria:

1. One Conrard Nijpels was baptised on 12 May 1691 in Maastricht - as son of Guilielm Nijpels, baptised on 10 November 1641 in Maastricht, and married there on 25 June 1672 to Maria Haenen.
2. Another Conrard Nijpels was baptised on 25 January 1665 in Maastricht - as son of Guilielm Nijpels, baptised on 8 Janury 1620 in Maastricht, and his wife Maria Brouwers. This Conrad was married on 9 January 1687 to Maria Wijnandts.
   

In 1739 in Maastricht, Conrard Nijpels represented Hendrik Nijpels. The younger Conrard did have a brother named Hendrik Dominicus. It's possible that the elder Conrard remarried, and lived to a quite old age, but my bed is on the younger Conrard as the husband of Marguerite Dreesens.

Since the elder Conrard is an uncle of the younger Conrard, both are descended from Guilielm Nijpels and his wife Christina Spauwen (who were married in 1613), and Reyner Nypels and his wife Elisabeth Bals (who were married in 1581).

5th Blogiversary - Interesting Blog Posts

On January 17, 2013, I published my 1st post for this blog, so today is my 5th blogiversary !

In those years January 2014 and November 2017 ware the months with the most posts (4). 
The most common surnames among my known ancestors are Van Driel, Oerlemans, Spruijt, Brand and Bos. On this blog the most common surnames in my posts are Bos and De Jong, the surnames of my parents. My ancestors with the most children are Cornelis Bos (1813-1888) and Otto van Driel (1756-1832); both had 17 children with 2 wives. In the 17th century Arij Peijnsz. Hogerwaert and his wife Trijntje Willems had 16 children together. 
Ancestors Gerrit Korver and Neeltjen Bloet (±1640-1727) were married for over 66 years. When my ancestor Jan Pieterse Vasen died on 11-8-1702 in Ottoland, Holland, he was "around 100 years old and had been blind for 3 or 4 years".

Henry Jan Beltman was struck by lightning in 1893

Henry Jan Beltman was struck by lightning on July 18, 1893, around 4 p.m. when he was busy driving his employer's horses into the stables. Mr. Beltman (31) had a young wife and 2 little children. He was buried at Edgerton cemetery, section 2, lot 9, grave 8.

In 1885 Henry Jan Beltman had married Nina Lena Jurgens. She was born on 30 January 1866 in Niedersachsen, Germany, as daughter of Heinrich Jurgens (1833-1898) and Brechtje Poppen Wermerssen (1838-1914). As a widow she married Harm Meyerink (1867-1956) in 1894, and had further issue. Nina Lena died in Platte on 17 May 1938.
