Neeltje Aelberts van Driel (1756-1835) married 3 times

Twins Neeltje and Aalbert van Driel ware baptized in Dordrecht on 19 May 1756. Their parents are Aelbert van Driel and his wife Anthonia Broeksmit (1714-1792). Aelbert was born in 's-Gravendeel and his parents are likely my ancestors Jurriaen van Driel and Trijntje van Ham. Aelbert died around 1756. His widow is mentioned on 17 May 1757.
Neeltje's eldest siblings, Krijntje and Jurianus van Driel, survived infancy too. Krijntje married once, Jurianus married twice, while Neeltje was to marry tree times.

View of Dordrecht

Neeltje was first married on 3 August 1783 in Dordrecht to Adrianus Voskamp, a young man, and a baker by profession. He was assisted by his father Barent Voskamp. Adrianus was born on 4 February 1763, and baptised in Dordrecht on the 6th. His mother was Hendrica Venus. Her burial was registered in Dordrecht on 2 June 1767, when Adrianus was 4 year old. His father Barent married his second wife, Jenneke de Koning, on 24 April 1768. Adrianus Voskamp died at the age of 50 on 9 May 1813 in Dordrecht.
On 15 November 1813 Neeltje van Driel, widow of Adrianus Voskamp, sold a house in the Voorstraat in Dordrecht to baker Arij van Asperen.

At the age of 61, on 2 July 1817 in Dordrecht, Neeltje van Driel married 67-year-old widower Jacob Kuiser. Jacob was baptised in Leyden, Holland, on 9 September 1750 with witnesses Marijtje Karelsen and Simon Kuijser. Jacob's parents are Joost Kuijser and Lijsje van Leeuwen. Jacob Kuijser died on 25 August 1827 in Dordrecht, aged 76.
Neeltje van Driel, widow of Adrianus Voskamp, sold Elizabeth Kuijser a house in the Stoofstraat in Dordrecht on 12 March 1828.

Neeltje van Driel married her third husband, Cornelis van der Plank (67), on 26 August 1829 in Dordrecht. Cornelis was widower of Geertruij van der Hoek who had died on 3 July 1826. Cornelis was born on 3 May 1762, and baptised in Dordrecht on the 5th. His parents are Claas van der Plank and Lijsje de Bruin. Lijsje's burial was registered in Dordrecht on 17 May 1769, when Cornelis was just 7 years old.
Neeltje van Driel died in Dordrecht on 25 July 1835 at the age of 79. Her widower Cornelis van der Plank died at the age of 90 on 3 April 1853 in Dordrecht.

Lijntje Boer (Puttershoek 1812 - Chicago 1891) married 3 times

Lijntje Boer originated in Puttershoek in Holland, married 3 times and died, aged 79, in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, USA. This is the story of her life.

Lijntje Boer was born on 7 March 1812 in Puttershoek, Holland. She is the 5th - but eldest (possibly only) surviving - child of Arie Boer (1774-1847) and Hilletje van de Graaf (1782-1849). Lijntje's grandparents are Arie Boertje (1725-1782), Pietertje van Roon (±1734-1778), Johannes van de Graaf (±1754-1830) and Lijntje Blankenaar (1757-1824). They were all living in Puttershoek.

On 29 September 1826 in Puttershoek, Lijntje Boer, aged 24, was married to Kleijs van Kleef. Kleijs was baptised on 5 April 1804 in Dordrecht. His parents are Arij van Kleef (1754-1833) and Maria Valster. Kleijs' elder siblings were baptised in Puttershoek. Lijntje and Kleijs had 4 daughters, but 2 of them died young. Kleij van Kleef died in Puttershoek on 1 May 1844, aged 40. Lijntje's father, Arie Boer, died on 12 January 1847 in Puttershoek, aged 72. Lijntje's mother, Hilletje van de Graaf died there on 25 May 1849, aged 67.

On 30 October 1850 in Puttershoek Lijntje Boer, aged 38, was married to Arij van Driel. Arij was born on 20 January 1817 in Strijen als the eldest surviving son of Gerrit van Driel (1748-1847). Arij's mother is his father's second wife Adriaantje Schaap (1785-1851). Lijntje and Arij had 2 daughters who died young and 2 sons who survived to adulthood.
In 1859 Lijntje's eldest daughter Hilligje van Kleef married Willem de Best (25). In 1865 Lijntje's second daughter Maria van Kleef married Aalbert den Boer (27). They became parents of a daughter Lijntje den Boer on 28 April 1867 in Strijen.

In 1866 Arij van Driel en Lijntje Boer decided to emigrate to the USA and they took their sons Gerrit (14) and Arie (12) with them. Arie died, aged 49, just before arriving in America. As their ship was going down the St. Lawrence River, it stopped at the Île d'Orléans to allow the Van Driel family to bury Arie there. Lijntje and her 2 sons arrived in New York on May 11, 1866.

How Kommertje Bos descends from 17th-century Commertje Bastiaans

On my father's side of the family I had a great-aunt named Kommertje Bos, which is a bit of an unusual name. She was named after her maternal grandmother, Kommertje Hoek (1812-1859). As was usual within large families, Kommertje Hoek had several granddaughters and great-granddaughters named after her. Among them was another Kommertje Bos (1910-2000), who was known as “Ko Kuip” due to her marriage to Jan Kuiper (1909-1967). That Kommertje's father was Jacob “Jaap” Bos (1878-1944), son of Cent Bos (1845-1917), a brother of my great-grandfather Teunis Bos (1853-1923).
This Teunis Bos was the father of the Kommertje Bos of this post. Kommertje was married in 1913to Cornelis (“Cees”) Boer and had sons named Leendert (2x), Teunis, Aart and Cornelis. Kommertje's younger sister Willempje (“Wim”) Bos (1897-1982) married Cornelis' brother Meeuwis Boer (1890-1959) in 1925. That's a great-aunt I can still remember.

  2. Teunis Bos (1853-1923) married Maaike van Driel (1859-1926) in 1880 in Strijen.
  3. Kommertje Hoek was born on 4-1-1812 in Sint Anthoniepolder, baptized on 12-1-1812 in Cillaarshoek and there died on 1-11-1859. She was married on 7-12-1842 in Maasdam to Cornelis Bos (1813-1888).
  4. Pieter Hoek (1780-1844) married Willempje in 't Veld (1789-1823) and Metje Vermoen (1792-1843).
  5. Commertje den Broeder was born on 26-7-1738 in de Greup and baptized on 3-8-1738 in Westmaas. She died on 24-12-1823 in Klaaswaal. She was married in Klaaswaal on 15-4-1768 to Mattheus Hoek (1734-1817).
  6. Bastiaan Meeuwisse den Broeder (1680-1738) was married to Adriana Willems Vlasblom and Ahrentje Corsse de Jong (1703-1752).
  7. Ariaentie Leenderts Broeder was born around 1645. She was married in Numansdorp on 13-6-1666 to Meeuwis Corsz.
  8. Commertje Bastiaans was born around 1625. She was married to Leendert Ariens Boender, Carel Pieters and Jan Claasse van Dalen. She lived in Numansdorp.
All these ancestors lived on the island known as "Hoeksche Waard" in the southwest of Holland.

Ancestor Score 2016: 76,4% of the 10th generation

Inspired by the Ancestor Score of the blogs "Connecting The Worlds" and "Heritage, Inheritance, & Legacy", I here present my own.

Geneanet defines the ancestor score as "comparing the number of possible ancestors with the number of identified ancestors on a 10-generation report". My ancestor score at generation 10 = 76,4%.

The total number of my known ancestors - starting with my parents (generation 2) - is 3884.

The decrease in ancestors in generation 7 is mostly due to cousins marrying cousins. The most common surnames of my ancestors are Van Driel, Spruijt, Oerlemans and Bos.

Surname Saturday - Van Driel

One of my father's grandmothers is Maaike van Driel (1859-1936). Her surname Van Driel is - like many other family names - derived from a geographical names: Driel is a village near the river Rhine. Many non-related Van Driel families are living in The Netherlands. My Van Driel ancestors lived in Strijen, Holland.

My great-grandmother Maaike van Driel (1859-1936) with her husband Teun Bos and their children.

Maaike descends from Adriaen Claesz van Driel. He lived in a rural area near the village of Strijen at the end of the 16th century. Adriaen's grandfather, Hendrik Aertsz, was a farmer in Barendrecht in the first half of the 16th century.
