Adam Albertijn (1687-1729) settled in South-Africa

Adam Albertijn was baptized on 21 July 1687 in Delft, Holland, with witnesses Benedictus Haan and Anna Bruyns. His parents are Nathaniel Albertijn and Aletta van Dongen. Adam had a sister Cornelia Albertijn.

Carpenter Adam Albertijn was first married on 7 May 1713 in Delft. His bride was Cornelia Kock. Both the bride and the groom were living in Delft. The couple had a son Nathaniel, known as "Daniel", baptized in Delft on 16 January 1715 with witnesses Jacob de Ruiter, the child's uncle-by-marriage, and the child's grandmother Aletta van Dongen.

Adam Albertijn had his salary paid to the family of his eldest son

Adam Albertijn joined the Dutch East India Company, and boarded the flute ship “Delfland” as a soldier. The ship departed from the Isle of Goeree in Holland on 21 September 1718, and arrived at Cape Good Hope in South-Africa on 17 January 1719. Adam's salary was send to his mother-in-law. She was the widow of Jacob Kock senior, and was taking care of Adam's young son Daniel. Daniel's mother and Adam's wife, Cornelia Kock, had died. By 1728 Daniel's grandmother had died, too, and Daniel was living with his maternal uncle Jacob Kock junior.

On 12 December 1723 in the Cape of Good Hope, Adam married Geertruij Loots, and settled in South-Africa. They had a son Hendrik baptized on 23 September 1725. Soldier Adam Albertijn, originating in Delft, aged 35, and his wife Geertruij Loots, originating in Cape Good Hope, aged 21, made a will in 1725.A dam Albertijn died in 1729. His son Hendrik later married, and had issue.

The second wife and son of Adam Albertijn

On 7 April 1728 Adam's son by his first wife, 15-year-old Daniel Albertijn, boarded a ship for his first voyage with the Dutch East India Compnay. He returned in The Netherlands on 20 May 1730. That year Daniel was living in the house of blacksmith Jan Kock. Daniel was ill at the time, and had a will made, mentioning his maternal uncles Jan, Jacob and Adriaan Kock. Daniel's second voyage lasted from 11 October 1730 until 11 July 1735. A third voyage started on 22 December 1735 and ended on 5 September 1737.

Daniel Albertijn, aged 22, made a new will on 5 October 1737. The 5 heirs mentioned in this will were Agnieta van Lil, widow of Jan Kock, Jacob Kock, Adriaan Kock, Adriaan Vincent, and Jannetje Kock, wife of Coenraad Renssen, and living in 's-Graveland. Daniel Albertijn was buried in Delft on 29 November 1737.

Adam's father and Daniel's grandfather, Nathaniel Albertijn, originated in GdaƄsk in Poland. Nathaniel worked as a draper in Leiden, Holland, when he was registered to get married to Anna Leeuwenburgh on 25 March 1673 in Delft. They were married in April in nearby Ter Heijde. They had a son Adam, baptized in Delft on 12 April 1676, who died, and was buried before the end of the month. Nathaniel  had his wife Anna Leeuwenburgh buried on 19 September 1683 in Delft.

The first marriage of Nathaniel Albertijn

As a widower Nathaniel Albertijn married a second time on 23 September 1685 in Delft. The bride was Aletta van Dongen, who became Adam's mother in 1687. When Adam's sister Cornelia Albertijn married Isaack Crol in 1701 in Delft, their father Nathaniel was still alive. He died in May 1705, and was buried in Delft. Adam and Cornelia's sister Maria Albertijn (1692-1716) married Jacob de Ruijter in 1714 in Delft.

Aletta van Dongen, widow of Nathaniel Albertijn, was buried in Delft on 16 March 1748. Aletta had siblings Joachim, Willemina and Cornelia. Cornelia married twice, and had a daughter named Marija.
