Short-lived Marriage ~ Adriaantje Heijltje Koomans (1813-42)

Adriaantje Heijltje (“Adriaantje”) Koomans was born on 29 June 1813 in Willemstad, Brabant, The Netherlands, as the eldest daughter of Nicolaas Koomans (±1753-1829) and his fourth wife Catharine ("Kaatje") Timmers (±1786-1846). ;Adriaantje's surviving full siblings were Heiltje Adriaantje (1816-1901), Maaijke (1818-1887) and Nicolaas (1822-1869). Their eldest half-sibling was Pieter Koomans (1779-1846). Another half-sibling with another mother was Jacobus Koomans (1797-1874). In 1917 he married Anna Margaretha Wonders (1797-1860). Their eldest daughter Maaike Francisca Koomans was born on 16 April 1818 in Delfshaven near Rotterdam.

At the age of 23, Adriaantje Koomans was married on 26-5-1837 in Willemstad to Auke (“Omke”) Tolk. He was born on 4 September 1802 in Jisp in Holland, as son of Jacob Tolk (1778-1835) and his wife Jannetje Bakker. Auke had - among others - a younger sibling named Jacob, born on 29 January 1817 in Medemblik, Holland. At the age of 25, Jacob was married on 29 June 1842 in Delft, Holland, to 24-year-old Maaike Francina Koomans, Adriaantje's half-niece. Jacob Tolk jr. worked as a pharmacist and lived in Amsterdam. He had a son named Jacobus Tolk (1848-1928).

In 1840 Auke was living in Leiden and working as a grocer. Meanwhile, his wife Adriaantje gave birth to the following children:

1. Catharina Johanna Francina was born on 10 March 1838 around 11:00 in Medemblik. She was married in 1859 in Utrecht to Thomas Karel Jacobus Kraat. As a widow she was remarried in 1872 in Breda to Boudewijn Jacobus Couvee. She died on 8 May 1913 in Arnhem, aged 75. She had issue.
   
2. Johanna Hillegonda was born on 2 March 1840 in Leiden. She died on 28 July 1855 in Bergen op Zoom, Brabant, The Netherlands, aged 15.
   
3. Nicolaas Jacob was born on 29 March 1842 in Leiden. He died on 4 November 1902 in Apeldoorn, aged 60.

Two months after the birth of her youngest child, Adriaantje Heiltje Koomans died on 4 June 1842 in Leiden, aged just 28. Her widower Auke Tolk survived her by one and a half year, dying on 14 February 1844 in Leiden, aged 41. Their orphaned children were probably taken in by their maternal aunt Heiltje Adriaantje Koomans (1816-1901) who lived in Bergen op Zoom. At the time of the first marriage of the couple's eldest daughter Catharina, Nicolaas Koomans (1822-1869) was her guardian.

Josephus Andibarila & his Borel descendants in 's-Gravendeel

The Borel family of 's-Gravendeel, Holland, descends from Josephus Franciscus Wilhelmus (“Joseph”) Andibarila who signed his name as "Joseph Andeberrela". He was born around 1788 in Antwerp, Belgium. Given the sound of his surname, and the fact that his eldest son had brown eyes and black hair, his ancestors probably originated somewhere around the Mediterranean.

Joseph was tailor by profession. He was married in May 1801 in Strijen to Anna Bakkers. The marriage banns were published on April 17 and 5 and May 3. Anna originated in Strijen and was a daughter of Arnoldus Bakkers and his wife Margrietta Pallee/Polle/Pale. Given the obvious spelling problems, Anna's mother likely had foreign ancestors, too.

Josephus Andibarilla of Antwerp married Anna Bakker of Strijen in 1801 in Strijen.

Joseph and Anna had children named Wilhelmus, Margaretha (1803-1870), Arnoldus, Anna Cornelia (1807-1867), Josephus (j†), Josephus Franciscus & Maria (j†). They were living in a little neighborhoods named Mookhook and Schenkeldijk, located between 's-Gravendeel and Strijen. However, they had their children baptized in the city of Dordrecht according to a special movement within the Catholic faith.
Apparently, the pronunciation of Joseph's surname was so problematic for the Dutch that he changed it to “Borel”.
Anna Bakkers died on May 17, 1841, around 20:00 in Strijen. Joseph Borel, her widower, died in Strijen on February 18, 1846, around 18:30.

Joseph's eldest son Wilhelmus “Willem” Borel was born on July 3, 1802 in Mookhoek. He was baptized on July 18th in Dordrecht. He was married on August 6, 1835, in Strijen to 30-year-old Ariaantje Tuk. Ariaantje had had an illegitimate son Pieter in 1832 who died in 1833, and another on April 29, 1835, in 's-Gravendeel. Willem Borel acknowledged this last Pieter as his son when he married Ariaantje. That doesn't necessarily mean that Pieter actually is his biological son. After their marriage, Ariaantje gave birth to another son Adrianus Borel (1838-1880) who appears to have remained unmarried.

Josephus Borel was living at the Schenkeldijk near Strijen when he had his son Arnoldus baptized in Dordrecht in 1803.

Joseph's second son Arnoldus Borel was born in 1804 at the Schenkeldijk near Strijen. He was baptized on September 8, 1804, in Dordrecht. He was married on September 20, 1834, in 's-Gravendeel to Huibje Katoen (1800-1879). She was a widow who had had 7 children in her first marriage, and 4 of them were still alive. With Arnoldus Borel Huibje had 9 more children, but their son Joost was the only one who survived to adulthood. Joost was born on October 3, 1836, in 's-Gravendeel. In 1862 he married Neeltje Vermaas (1839-1922). Among their many children was a son named Huibert Borel who married and had a son named Joost.

Longevity ~ Maria Wilhelmina Branderhorst (97)

Maria Wilhelmina Branderhorst was born on 23 July 1895 in Genderen, Brabant, The Netherlands, as the 6th child of  William Marius Branderhorst (1863-1944) and hist wife Maria Johanna van der Beek (1869-1957). One of her elder siblings, Gijsbert, died on 8 October 1898 at the age of 6. Eight more siblings were to follow. The siblings closest in age to Maria Wilhelmina were Gerrit Branderhorst, born on 13 January 1894 in Genderen, and Pietronella Cornelia ("Nellie") Branderhorst, bron on 18 Ocotber 1896 in Genderen.
In 1908 Maria Wilhelmina and her parents and siblings boarded the S.S. Rotterdam and travelled to the U.S.A. The family settled in Pella, Iowa. There, Maria Wilhelmina had 2 additional sisters.

In 1915 Maria Wilhelmina Branderhorst was married to Hessel D. van Ryswyk. He was born on 31 December 1898 in Leighton, Mahaska County, Iowa. His father is Dirk Jan van Rijswijk (1861-1952) who originated in Heukelum in The Netherlands. Hessel's mother is Dena Evelena Bierma (1864-1937). She was born on 28 October 1864 in Holwerd, Frisia, The Netherlands, as Ybelina Hesselina Bierma, daughter of Hessel Bierma and Jelktje Denkema.

My Maternal Lineage - or “The Russian Doll Challenge”

 Your maternal lineage concerns your mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, bed-great-grandmother, etc. It is mitochondrial DNA (or mtDNA) that's inherited exclusively through the female line. This small, ring-shaped DNA is not located in the cell nucleus, but in the mitochondria that are the energy converters of your cells. This maternal inheritance of mtDNA is used to map the distribution of a person's ancestors in prehistoric times.
 Genealogically speaking, your fully female-line ancestors are your ancestors with a 100% certainty. Before IVF your mother was always your biological mother. In the case of adultery, however, a woman's spouse is the legal father of the child, but the child may have a different biological father, so your male-line ancestry is less certain.
 This blog features my purely maternal ancestors*. They were all living in Holland. My purely matrilineal matriarch (upper left) is Ariaentke Willemsdr. who was born around 1595 in Oud-Alblas. My father's matrilineal matriarch is Machteltje Teunisdr. who lived in Ouderkerk aan de IJssel around 1600.
