Coenraad Rijsdijk (1844-1923) married his niece Pietertje Rijsdijk (1869-1946)

Coenraad Rijsdijk was born on 20 June 1844 in IJsselmonde, Holland. His parents are Arij Rijsdijk (1815-1883) “the elder” and his first wife Pietertje Mens (1820-1847). Coenraad had an elder brother Arie Rijsdijk “the younger”, born on 29 October 1841 in IJsselmonde.
After their mother’s death on 20 November 1847 in nearby Ridderkerk, their father married Lena de Ruiter on 14-3-1840 in nearby Barendrecht. By the time Arij “the elder” married his third wife, Maria Monfrooij (1826-1892), on 10 September 1880 in IJsselmonde, Coenraad was already a married man.

Coenraad’s elder brother Arij “the younger” was the first to marry on 27 June 1863 in IJsselmonde. His bride was Maria Wuister (1840-1880). Maria and Arij had several children, including a daughter Pietertje Rijsdijk, born on 30 January 1869 in IJsselmonde. Arie Rijsdijk “the younger”, aged 29, died on 30 April 1871 in Charlois, now part of Rotterdam. His widow Marie Wuister died at the age of 39 on 4 March 1880 in Barendrecht, leaving her daughter Pietertje an orphan at the age of 11. Thus, Pietertje's uncle Coenraad Rijsdijk became her guardian.

At the age of 23, on 24 April 1868 in IJsselmonde, Coenraad Rijsdijk had married 20-year-old Trijntje de Ruiter. She was born on 12 August 1847 in IJsselmonde, and her parents were Arie de Ruiter (1796-1863) and Pieterje van der Velde (1809-1890). Coenraad and Trijntje had 10 children, but most of them died young, including twin daughters. Trijntje died on 26 March 1886 in Spaarndam, Holland, 2 weeks after giving birth to her youngest daughter, who died young, too.
The next year, on 24 March 1887 in Barendrecht, 42-year-old Coenraad Rijsdijk married his 18-year-old niece Pietertje Rijsdijk whose guardian he was. On 29 November 1886 the couple had obtained a special permission to marry, because an uncle-niece marriage is usually not allowed. The couple also got permission to marry without fees, because they were poor, so Coenraad’s job as “merchant” was likely more like a humble door-to-door salesman.

Pietertje Rijswijk gave birth to a death baby in IJsselmonde on 22 July 1887 around 4 o’clock. It’s unknown if the baby was either a miscarriage, or full-term - and then conceived before the wedding ceremony. Three more pregnancies resulted in lifeless children. Twelve other pregnancies were successful, but half of those children died young anyway.

Coenraad Rijsdijk fathered a total of 26 children with his 2 wives:

1. Arie was born on 6-1-1869 in IJsselmonde, Holland, and died there on 5-5-1869.
2. Arie was born on 8-4-1870 in IJsselmonde, and died there on 13-8-1870.
3. Arie was born on 4-9-1871 in IJsselmonde. He was still alive in 1889.
4. Pieter was born on 10-5-1873 in Charlois in Rotterdam, Holland. Pieter died there on 12-7-1873.
5. Pietertje was born on 3-9-1874 in IJsselmonde. Pietertje likely died before 1885.
6. Dirkje was born on 11-4-1877 in Barendrecht, Holland. Dirkje was married in 1899 in Haarlem, Holland, to Adolf Roelfs, who originated in Bellingwolde. They had several children.
7. Pietertje, twin with Maria, was born on 8-2-1884 in Spaarndam, Holland, and died there on 2-4-1884.
8. Maria, twin with Pietertje, was born on 8-2-1884 in Spaarndam, and died there on 2-6-1884.
9. Pieter was born on 23-3-1885 in Spaarndam, and died there on 30-10-1885.
10. Pietertje was born on 12-3-1886 in Spaarndam. Her mother died there on the 26th. Pietertje died  in Spaarndam on 31-7-1886.
11. A stillborn son was born on 22-7-1887 in IJsselmonde, 4 months after his parents' marriage.
12. Coenraad was born on 8-10-1888 in Haarlem, Holland, and died there on 26-7-1894, at the age of 5.
13. Maria was born on 12-4-1890 in Haarlem. Maria died 23-1-1891 in Kralingen in Rotterdam.
14. Arie Marinus was born on 14-12-1891 in Haarlem, and died there on 16-2-1892.
15. A stillborn son was born on 10-4-1893 in Haarlem.
16. A stillborn daughter was born on 20-7-1894 in Haarlem.
17. Aagje Maria Christina was born 11-9-1895 in Haarlem. She was married in 1923 in Haarlem to Willem Veldman who originated in Assen. Willem died in Haarlem on 8-6-1947 at the age of 64.
18. Christina was born on 12-11-1896 in Haarlem. Christina was married in 1916 in Haarlem with 22-year-old florist Leendert Zegwaard. They had issue.
19. Coenraad was born 30-1-1899 in Haarlem. Coenraad first married Dirkje Breuer (1898-1932) in 1924. He married his second wife, Johanna Maria Boogaard, in 1932. Coenraad died on 31-1-1966 in Rotterdam, aged 67. He had issue, including a daughter named Pietertje Rijsdijk.
20. Pieter was born on 11-12-1900 in Haarlem. Pieter was married in 1921 in Schoten to Janna Jans, who originated in Vlaardingen. Their daughter Elisabeth married Chinaman Nge Sheng Liu in 1942, and divorced in 1953.
21. Maria was born on 23-2-1902 in Haarlem, and died there on 10-9-1902.
22. A stillborn daughter was born on 16-3-1903 in Haarlem.
23. Arie Marinus was born on 17-6-1904 in Haarlem. He married Marijtje Kalter in 1927 in Haarlem. She died there in 1944 at the age of 40.
24. Maria was born on 22-7-1905 in Haarlem, and died there on 4-4-1907.
25. Marinus was born on 27-1-1908 in Haarlem. He died there on 12-7-1910 at the age of 2.
26. Pleun was born on 1-10-1909 in Haarlem. He married Lucia Tromp in 1931 in Haarlem.

Coenraad Rijsdijk died, aged 79, on 8 December 1923 in IJsselmonde. His widow, Pietertje Rijsdijk, died after World War II on 13 October 1946 in Haarlem, at the age of 77.
