Teunis Rijkhoek (1816-1882) in Pella

Pella in Marion County in Iowa was founded in 1847 when some 800 Dutch immigrants - led by minister Hendrik Pieter (“Henry”) Scholte - settled in the area. Among them were Teunis Rijkhoek (31) and his wife. They boarded the ship "Nagasaki" with captain F.A. Bunnemeijer. Departure from Rotterdam was on 11 April 1847 with 239 passengers on board. Two persons died at sea, and one person was born at sea. Subsequently, on the trip to Iowa, even more people died.

Teunis Rijkhoek was born on 21 February 1816 in 's-Gravendeel, Holland. His parents are Willem Rijkhoek and Pietertje van Ham (1790-1847) who is a male-line descendant of my 18th-century ancestor Jan Willems van Ham. The couple had other sons named Joost, Jan (1820-1907), Frans (1824-1904) and Johannes (1830-1889) Rijkhoek.
Teunis Rijkhoek was married on 8 September 1838 in Groote Lindt, Holland. His bride Cornelia was born there on 15 August 1818 as daughter of Willem Boer and Janna Hoogerwerf. The marriage  of Teunis and Cornelia remained childless.
Teunis Rijkhoek died in Pella in June 1882, aged 66.
