On 25 May 1848 in Maastricht Maria Joanna Petit, aged 56, married Philippus Laurentius Hermans as his 4th wife. The first proclamation of their marriage was on the 14th. The groom's profession was covering roofs with slate.
The bride was either born or baptised on 10 November 1794 in Liège in Belgium. Her parents are Nicolaas Petit and Maria Joseph Delbeuke.

After just 3 years of marriage, Philippus Laurentius Hermans died in Maastricht on 2 September 1851 at the age of 65. At the age of 56, Maria Joanna Petit was alone, again. In 1860 she was mentioned in Maastricht as a messenger.
Early 1869, Maria Johanna Petit, widow of Philip Laurens Hermans, was nursed in an insane asylum in Dordrecht. She was placed under guardianship. Maria Johanna Petit died on 28 September 1876 in Dordrecht, aged 81.

Philippus Laurentius Hermans, Maria Johanna Petit's husband, is a son of Franciscus (“François”) Hermans (†1802) and Agatha Gelen. He was baptised in Maastricht on 27 April 1786. Philippus Laurentius Hermans had a younger brother Jean François Hermans (1789-1865).
Philippus Laurentius Hermans first married 36-year-old seamstress Anne Joseph Tans on 11 June 1807 in Maastricht. She was baptised there on 2 September 1770. Her parents are Catherine Hubert and Gaspar – also Caspar - Tans.
Philippus Laurentius and his first wife had a son Guillaume (“Willem”) who was born in Maastricht on 17 February 1810. Another son, Johannes (“Jean”), was born in Maastricht on 15 October 1813. Anna Joseph Tans died on 26 June 1817 in Maastricht, aged 48.
Philippus Laurentius Hermans, aged 38, married his second wife, 51-year old Maria Barbara Beeldt, on 30 September 1825 in Maastricht. She was baptised there on 27 December 1772. Her parents are Barbara Mangelsmans (1748-1829) and her first husband Joannes Everardus Beeldt. At the age of 66, Maria Barbara Beeldt died on 12 July 1839 in Maastricht.

At the age of 55, Philippus Laurentius Hermans married his third wife 58-year-old Gertrudis Claesen on 13 November 1841 in Maastricht. She was either born or baptised on 19 January 1783 in Leuth in Belgium. Her parents are Margaretha Brouns (1743-1766) and Wilhelmus Claesen. Gertrudis was widow of Casparus Roemers (1786-1835) whom she had married on 12 January 1815 in Maastricht. After a 5-year-marriage Gertrudis Claessen died on 6 May 1847 in Maastricht, aged 64.
The second son of Philippus Laurentius Hermans, Johannes Hermans, married Maria Cecilia Walthouwers, and died at the age of 77 on 28 October 1890 in Maastricht.
